Oftentimes, men and women are released from jail with little or no resources or no place to go. We at The Abiah's House, Inc aim to provide these men and women with toiletry bags, which also contain restaurant and transportation gift cards, as they are released from jail. The Abiah's House also offers social and spiritual support to help those released understand that through God, healing and restoration is possible.
The founders of The Abiah's House Inc, Patricia and Wendell McElveen, have worked for over 20 years to carry the gospel of Jesus Christ to their community. In New Orleans prior to Hurricane Katrina, the McElveens hosted neighborhood bible studies, and worked with churches and non-profits to provide food, clothing, and educational resources for the least fortunate among them. In Louisiana and Texas, they have reached out to incarcerated individuals through Christ centered prison ministry. In 2008, they experienced the heart breaking loss of their daughter Abiah at the age of 11. It was their emotional journey of pain and questioning God's purposes, and ultimately, healing, that inspired the formation of The Abiah's House, Inc.
The Abiah's House strives to provide essential items to individuals as they are released from jail, as well as a means of transportation to their initial destination once they leave jail. Each Abiah's Freedom Pack contains:
One $10 Restaurant Gift Card
$15 Uber Ride
One salvation tract
A donation of $32 will help make one Abiah's Freedom Pack. Also included in the pack is a salvation tract and contact information for The Abiah's House for future assistance.
